 Community Peer Group Supervision

Purpose

The Community Peer Group Supervision program is designed to provide a dedicated space for Spiritual Directors (SDs) to engage in peer group supervision. Through this initiative, small groups of SDs come together online to present their spiritual direction sessions and offer constructive feedback to one another. The program seeks to foster ongoing community and support among post-graduate SDs, while also facilitating training in supervision when necessary.

Format

The program will be structured around four scheduled dates each year, allowing SDs to participate in quarterly online peer group sessions. During each session, participants will provide a brief synopsis of their spiritual direction session, present a formational question, and both receive and offer prayerful feedback from their peers regarding their session presentations. The process includes the following steps:

• SDs register online for their chosen session date.
• Each SD completes a concise Session Synopsis of their session, which they will share orally with the group. This report includes background information about the directee, relevant details about the session, and a formational question for group reflection. This does not need to be emailed to the peer group participants before the meeting; it is designed to aid you in sharing the most relevant information with the group during the meeting.
• The Formational Question, which serves as the focal point for feedback, is what you want to spend the most time on. You might explore your experiences of resistance, alternative responses to a directee, feelings about a session, or ways to deepen the experience of God.
• All group members listen attentively to each presentation and offer thoughtful, prayerful feedback and observations related to the Formational Question.
• Confidentiality is maintained for all sharing within the group. The peer group sessions will not be recorded.
• Your participation in the group is your agreement to maintain confidentiality of what is shared in the group.

Facilitation and Training

Alice Young serves as the facilitator for the Spirare Peer Group Supervision sessions during the program’s inaugural year.  Once a participant has registered, a Session Synopsis form and format for the Peer Group Supervision will be emailed to help participants prepare for their peer group supervision.
